LATE MODERN ENGLISH
1800-Present

During this time period, the Industrial Revolution and technology created a need for new words. This led to many more english vocabulary to be added to the English language. Also, the English language accepted many foreign words from many countries. Some words that came from the Industrial Revolution are electricity, camera, telegraph, pulley, train, engine, reservoir, and combustion. To compare Late Modern English to Old English, Old English is much more homogenous and has a greater use of a larger set of forms in verbs, nouns, adjectives, and pronouns. It also preserved grammatical gender in nouns and adjectives.
